Polidoro da Caravaggio was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance period, born in Caravaggio, Italy in 1499. He is known for his unique style of combining Roman classicism with Mannerism, a style of art that emphasized exaggerated and distorted forms. Polidoro worked in Rome and painted frescoes in various churches. His most famous work is the fresco cycle in the Sala dei Giganti in the Palazzo del Te in Mantua, Italy. He died in 1543, and his work influenced many later artists such as Baroque painter Caravaggio, who took his name from the town where Polidoro was born.
